I live near Komazawa Park where the community is in
conflict because of a new tower apartment construction.
It used to be quiet; but now looks different because
there is a gigantic crane sticking out.

Here is a spot that lets me take not only a great rainbow,
but also a crane with it. Different meanings appear between two prints; the rainbow with the crane, and the rainbow by itself.

"Taking pictures" probably means what kind of meanings
you can put into them.

In gulf war II, we just see pictures that Americans took.
I am not talking about what's right or wrong here;
at this point, Americans seem to have better skills
for picturing the sight.

--On a beautiful day, while waiting for waves,
I feel peaceful finding my reflection in water;

but it wouldn't let me have it in frame.

僕は駒沢公園の近くに住んでるんだけどウチの近所は今、タワーマンションが建設中で
地域ともめているんだ。
静かだった住宅街に突然巨大なクレーンが立っていて
異様だよ。

虹を撮る時にカメラをちょっと振るとクレーンが映るし、逆にちょっと振れば
きれいな雨上がりの空と虹だけが映る。
そしてプリントされた写真のフレームは
クレーンの入っていた虹と、空だけの虹では
まったくちがう意味を持つ。

どういう意味をそのフレームにもたせられるかが、
写真を撮るということの意味なんだろうな。

イラクとアメリカの戦争では、僕たちが見られるのは
アメリカがフレームを切ったイラクだけなんだよね。
善悪の問題はさておき、今のところアメリカのほうが
写真の腕はよかったってことになるんだろう。

たとえば天気のいい日に波乗りに行って、でも波が小さくてボードの上でぼーっと波待ちしてる時、ほんとうに頭の中がからっぽになって浅い海の底の砂に映った自分の影を見つけたりするだけでなんだかピースを感じる。

でも、そんな瞬間って写真には
ぜったい撮れないんだよね。
